I recently got the BX400. It was working perfectly until last week when it froze on me. The display just says pm display 20 3.70. No keys work, and it doesn't say anything. Any ideas what I can do? What with finals, I need something to write with!

o dear. you might have to reset it. Take a pointy object like the headphone plug and stick it in the recessed reset button on the bottom of the Pacmate. It is near the back and somewhat to the left if the unit was facing you as if you were going to use it. You'll need to hold it in there for a few seconds or so. I hope there isn't anything too important on there. Let's hope you don't have to do this, but you might.

That is probably right, though you could try a warm reset, tahat being hold down every braille key except dot 5. However, with it doing what you describe, the hard reset is probably what you will have to do.

Yeah. I'd go with the hard reset. Just hope you have your data backed up on compact flash...

hard resets are definitely better if nothing else works. but make sure yes you do have backups of everything.

U might want to try just hitting that reset button for just 1 second before you try holding it in, because that will give you a forced warm reset. If that doesn't work, I'm sorry to say u r S O L, but then again, maybe you backed everything up, I hope so. A word of advice to any potential pac mate users, this is actually quite common. I don't think I'll ever get a pac mate for this reason. The new firmware seemed to make things worse. U might ask how I know, and I do because I was trying one out here. I'm teaching some students how to use it, and the first thing I want to teach them is how to reset the peace of junk. I don't tell them that, but FS has really gone down hill since it became it's current entity. My advice is to back up everything at the same ttime you save it to the pack mate's internal memory.

Alright thanks guys! I had to do the hard reset, and it works now. I didn't have anything backed up, but then again I'd only gotten it two days previous and nothing of great importance was on. After resetting it did some funky stuff as in not letting me know what the charge was, and saying it was plugged in when it wasn't, but that's over now. Go figure lol. But a big thanks to all of you, and a big hug!
